Polar Vortex is an all-volunteer community Big Band. The goal of the band is to build awareness and appreciation for jazz and improvisation by providing enjoyable, lifelong learning opportunities for community musicians and affordable, entertaining concert experiences for audiences of all ages. The band performs in a wide variety of styles, including swing, Latin, and funk. The majority of the repertoire comes from the Great American Songbook and is supplemented by other great jazz standards. The band is directed by Scott Golenski.
The band rehearses year-round in five to seven-week sessions with one or more concerts at the end of each session. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:00 – 8:45 PM at Chardon Middle School, 424 North Street in Chardon.
The band is open to community musicians of all ages able to play at least at a high school level. Musicians are accepted based on the band’s personnel needs and logistical requirements. Anyone who is interested in playing with the band must contact the Director before attending a rehearsal to discuss their musical background and vacancies in the corresponding section. New musicians may be asked to wait until the beginning of a new session before joining. Sections that are full will have a waiting/sub list.
If you are interested in playing with the band, please contact Director Scott Golenski at snowbeltmusical.polarvortex@gmail.com.
