After graduating from high school, Scott attended Youngstown State University for music education. After college, he spent many years in retail banking before getting back to his musical roots. Scott was co-director of the Willowick Middle School Jazz Band before assisting with, then directing the Eastlake North High School Jazz Ensemble. More recently, while also playing lead trombone with Polar Vortex, Scott has played with the Danjo Jazz Orchestra, The Cleveland Trombone Collective and also Bone-afide under the direction of previous Polar Vortex director, Scott Marsh.
